Below, I've listed a few adaptive skiing programs that I've had the pleasure of experiencing and participating in over my eleven seasons of skiing (starting in 1987). The current list is not exhaustive; it neither lists all of the resorts at which I've had the pleasure of skiing nor all of the programs in which I've participated. I'll provide more information later.
For the last two seasons (2005 & 2006), I've been having a blast skiing out at Kirkwood, California and, in more powder days than not, being guided by mostly the DBS Program Director, my main dude, Jeff. A shout out to all my new friends on the DBS Board and other DBS volunteer guides, such as, Bruce, Casey, Kirk, and Nate, Kirk's eldest and who took a run with Kirk and me, shadowed us, and blocked those crazy boarders whilst managing to surf staying upright on a small board on the rough snow...!
I started skiing out at Jackson Hole via the instruction/guiding services of this Adaptive Skiing Program three seasons ago (2004) and have been returning each year since, sometimes more than once. Kurt, the most excellent Director of this program often instructs/guides me. (The rest of his staff say, "hogs me.") A shout out to other excellent professional staff from this program and who have instructed/guided me, namely, Andrea, Gardner, Kyle, and my man, Nate! FYI, the A & P Shortcut is a most excelent black mogul run named after Andrea and me, its co-inventors. If you can show me where it is and ski it with me successfully, I'll buy you a Moose Stout at the Mangy Moose!
Three seasons ago (2004), for the first time, I experienced skiing in Utah, and it was for a week (five days) during the first week of the new year at Park City Mountain Resort, and, thanks to NAC staff and volunteer guides plus all of the fresh powder, I had such a great time that I returned to use their excellent services for the last two seasons as well. The many NAC staff and volunteers with whom I've spoken on the phone, who have instructed or guided me, and whom I've met and chatted with on site have been very friendly and thus a pleasure to interact with. A shout out to Don (my first official instructor at NAC) and all the volunteer guides, such as, Dick, Clint, Guy, Mary Lu, and Tom! A special thanks and bon voyage to Dick, who guided me in Utah for the last three seasons on New Years Day and e-mailed me recently that he and his wife are moving out of Utah!
For the last two seasons (2005 & 2006), I've thoroughly enjoyed a few days of skiing all over Snowbird with and being guided by Vince from this adaptive sports program. Thanks to Peter, the founder, and Laura,, the Winter manager, who have been friendly and helpful in securing Vince as a guide for me and especially to Vince for guiding me all over this awesome mountain.
Way back in 1987, my first slides, first on one ski and eventually on two, began under the instruction of a great man, the Director and Founder of this adaptive skiing program, Michael Zuckerman. Thanks to Michael, my first experiences of learning skiing were so positive and rewarding that I return for a few more days of skiing lessons with him in 1988, and my love for skiing grew so much since then that I graduated to flying out west for eight out of my eleven total seasons of skiing and have become a advanced blind skier who loves skiing moguls, the steeps and deeps, traversing onto cornices, and dreams of living near some resort like Snowbird, UT or Jackson Hole, WY. For anyone in the area of the Blue Ridge Mountains and interested in skiing, whether disabled or not, I recommend that you enjoy a day or more of skiing or boarding at Wintergreen and that you look up Michael Z...
